(via PhotoBlog - A snow day in Tehran)
While watching the debate last night, it struck me how despite the wasteful devastation of the wars of the last decade the rhetoric for war against Iran continues to get ratcheted up. These folks (ron paul excluded) are still infatuated with the Straussian neo-con vision of the world, a polarizing simpleton formula of ‘good’ vs ‘evil’ that is undoubtedly cover for profitable agendas.
I love this photo, because it serves as a reminder that there are real people in places like Iran with just as much humanity as the rest of us and it’s their humanity that is at stake here.
The unfortunate by-product of a nationalistic definition of a people is that their identity is so easily appropriated and manipulated by images of extremists, and that’s what most folks see of Iran.
